Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei and Rexy Mainaky have brushed off concerns that the packed World Tour calendar will affect Malaysia’s two-gold target at the Thailand SEA Games in December.
Chong Wei, now BAM’s Performance Committee chairman, said the team has already adjusted their plans to cope with the busy schedule, which includes the Korea Masters, Japan Kumamoto Masters, and World Tour Finals before the SEA Games.
“The players are used to tight schedules, and the coaches are managing their workloads carefully. The SEA Games remain a priority,” Chong Wei said.
Meanwhile, doubles director Rexy Mainaky admitted that Thailand and Indonesia will pose strong challenges but remains optimistic.
“Our best chances are in mixed and women’s doubles. If Pearly-Thinaah play at their top level, they can win gold. Two golds is our goal — and it’s achievable if everyone stays fit,” he said.
