The tragic death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina, who fell from a building, has struck a painful chord with national women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei, bringing back memories of her own childhood bullying experience.
In a recent video, Jin Wei revealed that she was bullied when she was young and that a third party, aware of the situation, chose to look the other way.
“Maybe he thought this kind of bullying would make me stronger, or maybe he just didn’t want to cause more trouble,” she said.
Jin Wei recalled that her patience only emboldened the bully, making the harassment worse. She stressed that bullying will never stop unless someone stands up to confront and punish the perpetrators.
“If one person can’t do it, everyone must act together. Silence will only make them more arrogant. Only unity can make them stop,” she urged.
She called on people not to ignore bullying if they witness it, warning that turning away could mean the next victim might be themselves or someone they care about.
