It’s been nearly two decades since Malaysia last won a mixed doubles medal at the World Championships — bronze in 2006 through Koo Kien Keat and Wong Pei Tty.
Now, coach Nova Widianto is putting the challenge to world No. 4 pair Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei: end the 19-year wait in Paris (Aug 25–31).
Nova’s minimum target is clear — reach the semi-finals. As the fourth seeds, the Malaysians will avoid the top Chinese and Thai pairs until the last four, giving them a realistic shot at a medal.
Tang Jie–Ee Wei have yet to make a final in 2025 but have reached five semi-finals this year, at the Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Macau Opens. Nova hopes this time, they’ll push past the semis and rewrite Malaysian badminton history.
