Malaysia showed a strong comeback at the French Open as eight doubles pairs advanced to the Round of 16 — a major improvement after last week’s disappointing Denmark Open campaign.
Early today, men’s doubles pairs Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin, and Ong Yew Sin–Teo Ee Yi joined five others who had already secured their spots.
The full lineup includes Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun, Wan Arif–Yap Roy King, Pearly Tan–Thinaah, and mixed doubles duos Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Lai.
World No. 2 Aaron–Wooi Yik bounced back from their early Denmark Open exit by edging out Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando–Bagas Maulana 21-15, 26-24. They now face compatriots Ong–Teo in an all-Malaysian clash.
World No. 4 Sze Fei–Izzuddin fought back from a game down to defeat Denmark Open champions Takuro Hoki–Yugo Kobayashi 15-21, 21-19, 21-11. They next meet Taiwan’s Lee Jhi Huei–Yang Po Hsuan.
Meanwhile, Wei Chong–Kai Wun face a stern test against England’s Ben Lane–Sean Vendy, who recently defeated three top Malaysian pairs. However, the Malaysians hold a 1–0 head-to-head advantage.
Elsewhere, Arif–Roy King meet China’s Xie Hao Nan–Zeng Wei Han, Pearly–Thinaah take on Bao Li Jing–Zhang Zhu Xian, Tang Jie–Ee Wei play Taiwan’s Ye Hong Wei–Nicole Gonzales Chan, and Soon Huat–Shevon face Scotland’s Alexander Dunn–Julie MacPherson.
