England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy have proven to be a rising challenge for Malaysia’s men’s doubles after defeating world No. 3 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the first round of the Denmark Open on Wednesday.
The world No. 12 English duo triumphed 21-13, 13-21, 21-14 in a tight 56-minute clash — their first-ever meeting against Sze Fei-Izzuddin despite both pairs being long-time fixtures on the World Tour.
This result adds to Malaysia’s recent struggles, just days after Lane-Vendy also stunned world No. 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to capture the Arctic Open title in Finland.
In less than a week, the English pair have defeated Malaysia’s top two men’s doubles combinations — both ranked inside the world’s top three. They now hold a 6-4 head-to-head record against Aaron-Wooi Yik and a 3-1 advantage over Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, cementing their status as a major threat.
“We still have room for improvement. They’re in top form right now,” said Sze Fei after the match.
