Lee Zii Jia’s search for a long-awaited victory continued after another first-round exit at the India Open in New Delhi.
The independent shuttler, ranked world No. 144, fell to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke 21-13, 18-21, 21-18 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, marking his sixth consecutive first-round defeat on the World Tour.
Zii Jia has not progressed beyond the opening round of a World Tour tournament since March last year, when he reached the quarter-finals of the Orleans Masters. The loss also extended his head-to-head drought against Gemke, having now lost all five of their encounters.
