Ng Tze Yong has taken a positive step in his recovery after returning to court for footwork training, marking his first on-court session since undergoing ACL surgery last July.
National singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen confirmed that the 26-year-old has begun structured movement work following months of rehabilitation. While no timeline has been set for his return to competition, the initial session was viewed as an encouraging sign.
Jonassen stressed that Tze Yong’s comeback is being handled cautiously under an individualised programme, with close monitoring of how his knee responds after each session. Unlike the rest of the national squad, his training pathway will remain separate and carefully controlled.
Tze Yong has faced repeated injury setbacks since early 2024, including knee and back problems, leading BAM to prioritise a long-term recovery approach rather than rushing him back.
Beyond the physical aspect, Jonassen praised Tze Yong’s mindset, highlighting his strong commitment and positive attitude despite a difficult rehabilitation journey.
BAM reiterated that decisions on competition will be made step by step, with long-term sustainability taking precedence over short-term results.
