Indonesia’s men’s doubles scene may have found its next big pair to challenge Malaysia, as rising stars Raymond Indra–Nikolaus Joaquin continue their rapid ascent.
The world No. 32 duo caused another upset at the Australian Open on Friday, defeating Malaysia’s national No. 3 and world No. 5 pair Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun 21-15, 19-21, 21-15. Just a day earlier, they had also knocked out Choong Hon Jian–Haikal Nazri.
Since pairing up in February, Raymond–Nikolaus have captured five titles in lower-tier tournaments and showcased their World Tour potential by finishing as runners-up at the Korea Masters Super 300. Their run into the semi-finals of the Australian Open Super 500 marks their biggest career achievement to date, highlighting the emergence of another strong Indonesian men’s doubles combination.
A nation known for producing world-class pairs may have just discovered its next contenders.
