South Korea’s world No. 1 pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae have rewritten badminton history by becoming the men’s doubles pair with the most titles won in a single BWF World Tour season since the tour began in 2018.
In the Kumamoto Open final on Sunday, the duo dropped the first game 20-22 to Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita but recovered strongly to win 21-11, 21-16, extending their perfect head-to-head record against the Japanese pair.
The victory marks their ninth World Tour title of the season, surpassing Indonesia’s former world No. 1 duo Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who previously held the record with eight titles in both 2018 and 2019. Kim and Seo have now become the most successful men’s doubles pair in a single season.
Including their World Championships triumph in Paris, Kim and Seo have secured ten titles this year. They also matched the all-time record for most World Tour titles in a single season, previously achieved by Kento Momota in 2019 and An Se-young in 2024.
Competing in 16 tournaments this season, they reached 11 finals, further cementing their dominance on the world stage.
