National singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen has voiced his dissatisfaction with Malaysia’s current singles performance since taking charge in January, calling for patience as he works to rebuild a young and inconsistent squad.
“I can’t say I’m happy with their performance — I want more progress, but I also need to be patient,” said the Danish coach, noting that improvement in training hasn’t yet translated into tournament results.
Malaysia’s top men’s hopes, Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh, continue to struggle. Justin’s latest first-round exit at the Kumamoto Masters marked his second straight early defeat.
Jonassen, however, praised the women’s singles players K. Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching for showing better adaptability and steady growth.
“The players need to be more consistent, think on court, and solve problems during play — not depend on luck,” he emphasized, while remaining optimistic that the young squad is heading in the right direction.
