National men’s doubles player Ong Yew Sin revealed that he is considering reporting the matter to the police after receiving disturbing messages that crossed from criticism into threats against personal safety.
Ong said he is accustomed to criticism over performance and results, but this was the first time he and his partner Teo Ee Yi had been targeted with messages involving threats of physical harm. He described the comments as extreme and dangerous, stressing that such behaviour is unacceptable.
“I don’t mind people criticising me. Comments about performance or losses are normal. But when it turns into threats of physical harm, that crosses the line,” Ong said, adding that it was important to make the issue public even though he initially hesitated to do so.
He also highlighted that this is not an isolated case, noting that many athletes have faced similar situations. The incident surfaced following Ong and Teo’s first-round exit at the Indonesia Masters earlier this week.
