An Se-young, 23, of Samsung Life Insurance, concluded a remarkable 2025 season by winning the BWF World Tour Final women’s singles title in Hangzhou, China. She defeated Wang Zhiyi 2-1 (21-13, 18-21, 21-10) in a 1 hour 36-minute match, overcoming cramps in her left thigh to secure victory.
Throughout 2025, An Se-young played 77 matches, winning 73 and losing only 4, achieving a 94.8% win rate, the highest ever in a single season. This surpasses the previous records set by Chinese legends Lin Dan (92.75% in 2011) and Lee Chong Wei (92.75% in 2010), highlighting her dominance on the court.
Her season included victories at the Malaysia Open, India Open, Orleans Masters, All England Open, Indonesia Open, Japan Open, China Masters, Denmark Open, France Open, Australia Open, and the World Tour Final, totaling 11 titles. She also maintained an eight-match winning streak against Wang Zhiyi this season.
An Se-young reflected on her achievement, saying that the high win rate and number of titles were the most meaningful records, representing the result of her consistent effort and preparation, including careful body management after last year’s injuries.
Looking ahead, An Se-young will start the next season at the Malaysia Open in January and aims for back-to-back titles at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. She remains focused on improving further, noting that her prime has not yet arrived.
