A limited-edition YONEX Nanoflare 700 Pro racket signed by Dato’ Seri Lee Chong Wei sold out rapidly during the Penang Badminton Association’s centennial celebration. All 200 units, priced at RM1,000 each, were purchased within three days, generating RM200,000 — far surpassing expectations.
Association president Datuk Seri Khoo Ching Keat said the rackets were provided at a discounted rate through sponsors. The model is also used by South Korean men’s doubles stars Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho. He added that even 500 units would likely have sold out given the strong demand.
The funds will support centennial event expenses and future development programmes, particularly nurturing young badminton talent.
The celebration also featured a “Badminton Hall of Fame Exhibition” showcasing historic memorabilia, supported by many badminton veterans. The association aims to further promote badminton in Penang and eventually establish a permanent exhibition hall to preserve its century-long legacy.
