Denmark’s former world number one badminton star, Viktor Axelsen, has officially confirmed his divorce from his wife, Natalia. The separation was carried out on good terms.
The announcement was made by the 31-year-old player through his social media account on X on Tuesday night, August 19, 2025 (WIB).
“Life does not always go according to plan. Natalia and I have decided to part ways in a good manner,” Axelsen wrote.
The Olympic champion did not go into detail about the reasons behind their decision. Throughout their marriage, Axelsen and Natalia were blessed with two daughters.
Born in Odense, Axelsen also appealed for understanding and respect regarding the decision.
“Our top priority is our two wonderful daughters, and we are committed to being the best parents for them during this challenging time,” he added.
In addition to the personal announcement, it was also confirmed that Axelsen will not be participating in the 2025 BWF World Championships, which are scheduled to take place from August 25–31, 2025, at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.
The two-time world champion has decided to withdraw due to lingering injury issues that have prevented him from reaching full fitness.
Axelsen’s absence opens the door for Indonesian men’s singles player Alwi Farhan, who will make his debut in this prestigious tournament.
